Check out all the sweet new UAR gear!

Coming soon to a UAR near you...
Our new cycling cap. This is made by Pace Custom and has a white stripe along the top and bill. Drip UAR logo on both sides. Very classy.
The brown retro trucker was so popular last year that we made it in another color: Navy. It's for those days you just don't feel like wearing black. You know...those earth tone days.
Arm Warmers! Made by SockGuy. These are quite warm and come in two sizes. They get a lot of attention, so watch out!
A sock for the ladies. 1" cuff with chain link around your pretty little ankles
And the new UAR 'drip' crew sock. Here in Colorado we LOVE to wear tall socks. These are sweet -you'll want a couple pairs.

These items will soon be available for sale >>>>>>

Tucson Big Wheel pre-ride

We've got the course locked and loaded. Lot's of 3-wheel drift action to be had. See you tomorrow Tucson!
Just another day at the office....

We started bright and early when the alarm had us out of bed at 3:45 am. Why you ask? To show Tucson newscasters how to ride big wheels and runt bikes, that's why.
It was a silly appearance - but they were having a great time. It's not everyday that TV guests bring big wheels for them to ride. We hoping to see Scott, the newscaster out at the event with his 11yo. This photo goes to prove that anchorman do indeed wear pants under the news desk. There you have it folks.
Then we made our way down to Tucson's Bike to Work day. Some locals got to try their hand at the big wheels. This fellow was sporting an old Campagnolo cycling cap, boxers under his tights...and man did he love his 1st big wheel ride. We got our 1st feel for the Tucson cycling public this morning.

Then it was time to organize. Tim and Jackie made preparations to bring back a classic UAR obstacle which we have not done since Denver 2006.

And now, we're off to meet Mr Nat Ross, New Belgium's new Road Warrior, at Packet Pick up. We'll see you Tucson Urban Assaulters at Maynard's Market between 12 - 3.

Tucson Mystery Clue #1

Since the UAR is new to Tucson, we're giving you all an extra day. NOTE: there are only TWO mystery checkpoints in Tucson (not three as previously stated).

Here's the clue:

It can also be accessed HERE

Some people just don't get it

Seems like the word is getting out around Tucson. So much so that a reporter decided to write a little story on the UAR titled "Tucson event mixing booze and bicycling sends bad message". Well...it made it all the way to USA Today.

Of course she didn't do any fact checking to see if what she was ranting about was actually was part of the event. No Andrea, UAR riders don't drink DURING the ride. You kidding me? Perhaps ask if this is the case before writing a story on it? It's true that an event where people booze it up, then race bikes through the streets would be a tad bit dangerous. Kinda like the 'Running of the Bulls" but with cars instead of bulls.

Luckily, she was tried by the Tucson Court of Public Opinion...and lost. Check out the comments. Despite the comment that the writer is signing up for the Tucson UAR, she has yet to register. Don't fret Andrea, we won't be TOO hard on you. Who knows maybe you'll become a beer, bikes, and big wheel convert after all. One powerslide on the bigwheel is all it takes.

In other news, we got these snappy cycling caps in....
We'll have them at the UARs and for sale on our blog very soon. We'll also have 4 different non-cycling caps, 2 different socks, and armwarmers!
Our man Tim headed out to Tucson yesterday and is traveling the western lands as we speak. The trailer is loaded with 3 all-new obstacles....plus a few past favorites. You all are going to love them!

The bonus quiz went up this morning. It's not as hard as in past years, but I did get to throw in: Snarf from the Thundercats, Samantha from 'who's the boss?', and Howard the Duck - among other very important topics.

Tomorrow, the 1st Tucson Mystery Checkpoint clue goes up...and this weekend....the 1st UAR of 2009. Thanks for reading folks!

Ah...the memories.

Austin 2008.

This year - it'll be even bigger and wetter and more shady (new venue - not the other shady;)
But come on dude..."Assault the Urban?" That's the best you could come up with?

What happens when you're the 1st team to make it to all the checkpoints and cross the finish line?

If your street smarts are as strong as you pedal-power....
And if you can ride around 20 miles per hour....
While laying off the pre-ride whiskey sour...

You're likely to take home one of these at the New Belgium Brewing Urban Assault Ride.

May I present the 2009 Limited Edition Fat Tire Cruiser (a pair of which are won at every New Belgium Urban Assault Ride).

Better start your training.

the final week before the the craziness ensues

without any particular order, here are some things of interest as of late...

We found some cool invisible bikes which we're trying to integrate this year. The problem is, we keep misplacing them and when we find them we always end up stubbing our toes on them. Maybe they're not the best idea after all.

Here's the killer new N.E.R.D/Santogold song...being performed with a rather blonde and bouncy audience. I'm going to learn Pharrel's dance stylins and showcase them on stage at the UAR. You'll see. I remember watching MTV's spring break when I was a kid, thinking that this was exactly what college was like. It's pretty much true - but the studying part I don't miss.

And for you Borat fans (one of my alltime favorites) here's the new Bruno trailer. This one is NC17 so beware. Seriously - I can't wait. I'll be there opening day.

New obstacle equipment for the season. Can you guess what the obstacles will be?

New UAR hats have shipped to us. Pace - the company that makes them says they're "tight". Black hats, white stripe, UAR drip logo....good lookin'. We'll have them up for grabs as soon as we can.

OK - off to a solid day on the 'puter. I bid the best of rides to you all.

pretty shiny bikey arty things

for your enjoyment, today's post is a shmatering of bicycle artistry. Not in the actual sense (like a hand made bike show) rather in the graphic art sort of way.

If you live in our neck of the woods (Denver/Boulder/Ft Collins/Longmont) and would like to check out something cool, ARTCRANK is coming to Denver next weekend. GeneO from One on One in MPLS was the host last weekend and I sure do wish I was there. I missed the work of our fellows Adam Turman and Steve 'Stevil' Smith. And if you'd like a preview of what's to come..check this out.

In other artistry, the following were designs submitted to the graphic T company Threadless. Some of these made it to production, some didn't. But they're all damn creative and cool.
by Alexmdc I've always been into animated happy skeletons rather than actual skeletons which I find quite spooky. I don't quite understand the smokey snake coming out of his mouth...and it reminds me of Keep on Truckin' for some reason. Can somebody explain the smokey snake?
by Flying Mouse Interesting idea - anatomy made of bike parts. However it kinda looks like the person has a long tape worm that's taken the shape of a chain. It's grossing me out. and the heart seems too small to power such industrial machinery.
by David T I like this one because it reminds me of a Will Ferrell Viking movie idea that me and my friend Jody put together. I must admit, we were enjoying some whiskey on the chair lift at Winter Park when the creativity was flowing.

by jillustration For some reason, a lot of artists are putting octopus/squids on bikes. Dirt Rag's got one and of course there's the classic Urbie the Assaultopus 2007 UAR design. I am impressed with the triple crank bike on the design. Very octoergo. But the best has to be the Urbie design - if nothing else, for the top hat.
by Raid 71 I imagine this polar bear to be saying "The sun is melting those icebergs and there's gonna be a big swell, so you better jump on the back so we can get our surfboards" At least that's my optimistic spin this poor polar bears habitat destruction.
by joshwa It's in the basement.....of the Alamo! Classic
by Santo76 This one is reminscient of Pee Wee too. Remember the long white chain he wrapped around his ride? Too bad the chain was plastic. If the bike wasn't on blocks, I dont think the image would convey that the bike was a victim of theft. Which is interesting because any bike thief worth their weight in cheap front wheels rarely needs bricks to operate. But perhaps this particular thief had a poor hamstring flexibility and had a hard time bending down.
Kinda like this
By dacat (this is my personal favorite - and not just cuz there's a big wheel in it)

by magno Beware of velociraptors on road bikes. If they are 1/2 as skilled as dogs, then they'd surely win the Tour De France..and eat you up.
